The Lisgarth Story

As a small child, I spent many an hour pleading for a dog of my own. However, my mother had a fear of animals, so the answer was a resounding "NO" ! My Dad did his best to pacify me by bringing home a host of different pets from Hampsters and Rabbits to Tortoises and Budgies. As much as I loved them all, a dog is what I really wanted. Then when I was around 9 years old, I thought I had made a breakthrough. Whilst sitting at the dinner table one evening, my mum announced that she had seen "a very pretty dog" earlier that day and if she was ever going to have a dog.... it would be that one. My ears pricked up instantly as I enquired as to the breed. "A Prince Charles" my mother replied. She is still getting things wrong to this day!  After a bit of investigation, I discovered the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and in the mind of a 9 year old, if I persisted, my mother would give in, as she liked them too. That never happened but my desire for a Cavalier had been deep rooted. When I left home, I knew it would not be long before I bought a dog. Megan (Tonewydd Careless Whisper) came along when I was 21 and was a sweet little Tricolour. Whilst visiting her breeder, I saw a Black & Tan for the first time and fell in love. Two years later, I decided it was time to find a playmate for Meg and this time I wanted a show puppy (B/T of course). I had NO idea what I should look for but was lucky enough to find Molly (Saxonview Sweet Liquorice of Lisgarth). Molly was taken to her first Open show and suprised me by winning 1st prize ...from there on, I was hooked. Molly continued to do well at the shows and gained her Stud Book number at the age of 18 months. It was thanks to her that I had my first experience of exhibiting at CRUFTS in 1998.

I then bought my first Ruby - Pollybent Golden Rose of Lisgarth, who was a daughter of the illustrious Champion Harana Too Darn Hot. Although Amber never made the show ring, she produced both my UK and International Champions and is behind most of the Lisgarth dogs of today. I have made some good friends in the show world along the way and have incorporated lines from both Ellie Mordecai's "Millhill" and Lorraine Hughes' "Loranka" into my breeding programme.

We strive to breed healthy pups of a good type with a typical Cavalier temperament.
